Some of the best albums and singles, new and old, with a figure out of ten slapped on it!

Catatonia: Equally Cursed and Blessed (April 1999)

Well, after the success of International Velvet much was expected of the third Catatonia album and it turned out to be a big let down. It's not that this is a terrible album, but after such a great second album it just didn't match up. To make a truly great album you can't just rely on your singles, most of the other tracks must be up to scratch and they just didn't have it. Dead From the Wasit Down, Londinium, Kareoke Queen and She's a Millionaire are reasonable enough, but for the majority of the other two thirds, there really isn't a lot to shout about. With so many other great albums out right now, there is no doubt where your money should be going.

Manic Street Preachers: This is my Truth Tell me Yours (August 1998)

Hardcore Manics fans would say that the MSPs have always been a great band, but most would agree that their fourth album was the one that shot them to stardom, and this their fifth shows that they are continuing to improve as they manage to better an already great Everything Must Go.

TimTTmY has a great balance of brilliant singles and good album tracks too. Tsunami, being a very powerful song, is undoubtedly the best track, but If you tolerate this then your children will be next, You Stole the Sun from my Heart (God the don't have pick long names for their songs) and My Little Empire as the other main singles give it a close run for it's money! However as I said there are also good album tracks and one in particular, Ready for Drowning is hidden gem! A great album, if you own it, well done! If not, next port of call should be HMV (or any other fine CD retailer.) The Manics truly deserve the BRIT awards, picked up in February!
